The first two stalkers in history are found in the book of John. All right, they may not have been the first in history, but they’re certainly the first ones mentioned in the Bible.
They were just chatting with their friend, John (the Baptist) when he pointed out the long-awaited Messiah walking past. So, they decided to follow this Messiah… from a distance.
Clearly, not great at stalking, the two followers were noticed. Jesus called them closer. He asked them, “What do you want?”
There was something in their response that made Jesus extend a powerful invitation:
- They acknowledged Him as teacher and master
- They wanted to know where He lived
Jesus answered: “Come and see.”
Jesus answered, “Come and discover for yourselves.” So they went with him and saw where he was staying, and since it was late in the afternoon, they spent the rest of the day with Jesus.
John 1:39 TPT
Have you been stalking Jesus? Have you been watching from a distance, without stepping into a full experience of His powerful love for you?
As you start the new year, take a moment to imagine yourself following Jesus from a distance. He stops, turns around and He is asking you, “What do you want?”
He is inviting you to come closer than you have ever been before. He doesn’t want you to follow from a distance, but to come and discover who He is, for yourself. Not through a sermon, book, or podcast. He wants you to come to where He abides – in life union with the Father.
He will continue to love you even at a distance.
But wouldn’t it be wonderful to come, and see?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for being our Teacher and Master. We accept your invitation to come closer. Show us how to abide with you in life union with the Father. Open the eyes of our heart, so that we can truly experience your goodness and glory. Amen.
A light for your path:
I prophesy to you eternal truth: “From now on, you all will see an open heaven and gaze upon the Son of Man like a stairway reaching into the sky with the messengers of God climbing up and down upon him!”
John 1:51 TPT
Heart Print:
Today I hear Jesus say: “Wonderful One! Move closer. The distance you feel between us is only an illusion. I am not only with you, I dwell within you. Together, we abide within the heart of the Father. You are always surrounded by my loving, gentle presence. Safe. Sound. Loved.” ❤️
