How did I get back here again?
I thought I was free.
I thought I had overcome this.
I thought I was making progress, but I guess I am back at square one!
I know how frustrating it can be when freedom seems just out of reach.
A few nights ago, I saw a reel about a seal pup who was being chased by a couple of rescuers. This seal pup was tangled up in ropes, wires, and fishing lines. This little pup was running towards the ocean with his mates and wasn’t best pleased to be held back by these blokes. Boy, did it wrestle to break free from their grip!
They easily snipped through the large, coloured ropes, but underneath the larger ropes and wires, were fishing lines, barely visible to the naked eye. The rescuers had to rub against the hide of the seal to find them and very carefully snip off the fishing lines which could be very harmful to this sweet pup.
After a short while, the seal was released and able to enjoy the freedom of the ocean.
It made me think about how often I try to keep moving forward when it’s time to surrender to my Rescuer. Just like the ocean, life is full of junk, and it is easy to get tangled up in things that were not ours to carry.
Worry. Disappointment. Anxiety. Hurt. Overwhelm.
These things are detrimental to our spiritual (and physical) health if we don’t let our Rescuer deal with it.
Some of our junk is easy to spot, and we might be able to identify it easily and cut ourselves free from it. But there are things that only our Rescuer can see. He can help us identify it. He is so gentle. He will carefully remove those things that entangle us.
All we have to do is surrender.
And trust.
Beautiful friend, can I encourage you today to rest and allow your Rescuer to snip away the lies that keep you stuck? It will take a lot less time if you let Him help you get untangled.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us…
Hebrews 12:1 AMP
‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you;
Do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you;
I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’
